Description:
Upon their return to the East, the clients knew they would miss the Pacific West Coast landscape. They came to Ottawa in search of a central Canadian substitute for the ocean and mountain views of Vancouver. Erskine Dredge & Associates Architects Inc., along with architect Martine Pfalzgraf, partnered to help them realize their dream on a hilltop overlooking the Gatineau River in Cantley, Quebec. On this two-acre lot, the couple built a spectacular home, soaring three storeys above the rocky landscape. The open concept floor plan and huge windows offer a picture-postcard view of the river and the tree-covered Gatineau Hills to the south and west and Ottawa's skyline to the southeast.
The house literally hugs the rocky hillside, which steps down in tiers. As a nod to the West coast, the home is clad in vertically oriented cedar siding, further emphasizing the verticality of the site. Light fills the open spaces reflecting off of the crisp white walls throughout the 260 SQ M space. There are three large balconies; off the kitchen, the master suite and the guest bedroom with two more planned for the living room and off of the dining room.
